With a background in Psychology, Fortitude Plethora’s Managing Director Toni Stewart regularly investigates how psychology can be used to drive success. As a result, the firm recently looked into the benefits of brain training and how this is vital for professionals.
Toni Stewart of Fortitude Plethora always had a keen interest in people and the various influences that motivate people to act in certain ways. Her fascination into the human mind led her to study a BSc in Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice at Liverpool John Moore’s University.
Since graduating, Miss Stewart has kept her background in Psychology at the forefront of her business strategy and was recently interested in the ways in which brain training aids success.
It is estimated that people have an average of 70,000 thoughts per day. Each thought acts as a vital opportunity to either contribute to success or add to failure.
If a person is crippled with self-doubt or second-guesses their decisions, this will have a negative impact on their performance and consequently harm their chances of success. However, if an individual is confident in their abilities and their decisions, they are more likely to take well-informed risks and take positive steps to achieving success.
The firm is now encouraging people to change their way of thinking to that they can fulfil their aims and create opportunities. Fortitude Plethora believes that entrepreneurs can train their brains for success by undertaking these five exercises:
1) Differentiate between ruminating and problem-solving
The difference between trying to find effect solutions to a problem and simply rehashing things that have already happened that are beyond control can be monumental.
Fortitude Plethora believes that it is more productive to keep the brain focused on productive activities that help find solutions to problems, rather than fretting over past issues.
2) Give the same advice
Many studies have linked self-compassion to a wide range of positive psychological behaviours. From improved mental health and body image to enhanced self-worth and increased motivation. As a result, Fortitude Plethora feels that it is important for entrepreneurs to get into the habit of speaking to themselves the same way they would speak to a trusted friend.
3) Label emotions
Most people generally tend to avoid talking about their feelings or showing them in public. Fortitude Plethora believes that this can be a hindrance to success.
They encourage their workforce to spend a few minutes every day acknowledging their emotional state and labelling their feelings as this forces the brain to consider how their emotions are likely to affect their decisions.
4) Balance emotions with logic
Fortitude Plethora thinks that it is important for entrepreneurs to increase rational thinking in moments when emotions are running high. The firm believes that if individuals can create a list of pros and cons of their choices, then this can help take some of the emotion out of the decision and lead them to make the best decisions.
5) Practice gratitude
One study found that grateful people are 25 percent happier. Fortitude Plethora feels that gratitude can contribute to a range of other positive physical and psychological benefits, which in turn can lead to boost overall well-being and help make successful choices.
